Privacy Policy for Deeper Look

1. Information processed by the application

Camera and photo-library access

Deeper Look may request access to the device camera to scan product barcodes and to photograph product packaging. It may also allow you to select an image from your photo library.

Camera frames and images used only to detect a barcode are processed on the device. Deeper Look does not retain or upload those frames or images solely for barcode recognition.

Photos are uploaded only when you explicitly select or take them as part of a product contribution and choose to submit that contribution to Open Food Facts.

Product searches, barcode queries, and product pages

When you scan a barcode, search for a product, open a product page, or request alternatives, Deeper Look sends the relevant barcode, search query, category, or other product request information to Open Food Facts to retrieve product data.

These network requests also expose ordinary technical information needed to communicate over the internet, such as the IP address, application name and version, device platform, language, and request headers.

Voluntary product contributions

Deeper Look allows you to correct or complete product information. When you submit a contribution, the app may send the product barcode, selected language, product fields you entered or changed, and any product photos you selected to Open Food Facts.

Contribution requests may also include the Deeper Look application name and version and a pseudonymous installation identifier used by Open Food Facts for moderation and abuse prevention.

Open Food Facts is a collaborative, open database. Information and product photos you submit may become publicly available, may be reviewed or modified by other contributors, and may be reused under the licences applied by Open Food Facts. Do not submit photos containing faces, addresses, receipts, or other personal or confidential information.

Information stored locally

Deeper Look may store the following information on your device:

• Product preferences, evaluation rules, and nutritional reference settings
• Dietary, ingredient, allergen, and product-attribute preferences
• Previously viewed or scanned products, favourites, lists, and related results
• Application, language, country, appearance, onboarding, and tutorial settings
• Cached product information and temporary contribution drafts

This locally stored information is not sent to the developer unless a specific feature described in this policy requires it or you deliberately include it in a support message.

Support and issue reports

When you choose to contact support or report a problem, Deeper Look may prepare an email containing information you provide and technical context useful for investigating the issue. Depending on what you choose to include, this may contain:

• Your written description and reproduction steps
• A screenshot or annotated screenshot
• The current screen and, where relevant, the product barcode
• The device platform and application version
• Theme or visual-preference information relevant to the report

The report is not sent automatically. You can review or edit the prepared email in your email application before sending it. If you send it, your email address and ordinary email metadata will also be processed by the email providers involved.

Crash reporting

Deeper Look uses Firebase Crashlytics, a service provided by Google, to diagnose crashes and improve reliability. Crashlytics may automatically collect crash logs, stack traces, application state at the time of a crash, device model, operating system, application version, and pseudonymous installation identifiers.

Usage analytics

Deeper Look uses Firebase Analytics to understand how features are used and to improve the application. Analytics may include screen and feature interactions, scan method and outcome, barcode format, general evaluation outcomes, application version, device and operating-system information, approximate region derived from network information, and pseudonymous installation identifiers.

Analytics is intended to describe application behaviour, not the content of your dietary profile. Deeper Look does not use analytics for targeted advertising and does not intentionally send product photos, allergen selections, dietary rules, or the text of support messages to Firebase Analytics.

Notifications

Where product alerts or reminders are available and you enable them, Deeper Look may process notification permission status, a platform push token or pseudonymous installation identifier, and limited alert-subscription information needed to send relevant notifications. Notifications may be delivered through Firebase Cloud Messaging and the notification services provided by Google or Apple.

You can disable notifications at any time in the application or in your device settings. Disabling notifications does not necessarily remove notifications that were already delivered to your device.

2. Information Deeper Look does not intentionally collect

Deeper Look does not require you to create an account and does not intentionally collect:

• Your name, postal address, phone number, or contact list
• Payment-card or banking information
• Precise location data
• Advertising identifiers for targeted advertising

Your email address is processed only if you choose to send an email to the developer. Product photos may incidentally contain personal information if you include it, so review and crop images before submitting them.

3. Purposes and legal bases

Deeper Look processes information for the following purposes:

• To provide product search, scanning, evaluation, contribution, and notification features you request
• To save your preferences and history on your device
• To respond to support and privacy requests
• To diagnose crashes, prevent abuse, secure the service, and improve performance and usability

Where the GDPR, UK GDPR, or similar laws apply, processing is based, as appropriate, on performing the service you request, your consent or deliberate action, compliance with legal obligations, and the developer's legitimate interests in operating, securing, supporting, and improving Deeper Look. You may withdraw a permission or consent through the app or device settings where applicable.

4. Third-party services

Deeper Look communicates with the following third-party services:

• Open Food Facts, to retrieve product information and receive voluntary product contributions and photos. Open Food Facts privacy information and terms of use apply to its processing.
• Google Firebase Crashlytics, for crash diagnostics, and Google Firebase Analytics, for usage measurement. See Privacy and Security in Firebase and the Google Privacy Policy.
• Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, Google Play services, and Apple Push Notification service, where notifications are available and enabled.
• Your chosen email provider, when you voluntarily send a support, feedback, or privacy email.

These providers process information under their own privacy terms and may act as processors or independent controllers depending on the service and context.

5. Data sharing and sale

Deeper Look does not sell personal data.

Information is shared only with the service providers described above, when you choose to make a public Open Food Facts contribution, when required by law, or when reasonably necessary to protect users, the developer, or the service from fraud, abuse, or security threats.

Deeper Look does not include third-party advertising SDKs and does not share data for cross-app targeted advertising.

6. International data transfers

Third-party providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Where required, transfers are protected through applicable legal mechanisms used by the relevant provider, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses. Consult each provider's privacy documentation for details.

7. Data retention

• Local data: remains on your device until you delete it using an available in-app control, clear the app's data where supported, or uninstall the app.
• Crashlytics: Google states that crash stack traces and associated identifiers are generally retained for 90 days before removal begins.
• Firebase Analytics: user-level and event-level data is retained according to the Firebase/Google Analytics configuration, for no longer than 14 months in the standard property used by Deeper Look. Aggregated reports may remain available for longer.
• Open Food Facts contributions: submitted product information and photos may remain in the public database and its history according to Open Food Facts' retention, moderation, and licensing rules, including after you stop using Deeper Look.
• Support emails: are kept only as long as reasonably necessary to answer the request, investigate the issue, maintain support records, or meet legal obligations, normally for no longer than 24 months after the last relevant exchange.
• Notification identifiers: are retained while needed to deliver enabled notifications and may be refreshed, invalidated, or removed when you disable notifications, reset the app, or uninstall it, subject to platform-provider practices.

8. Security

Deeper Look uses encrypted HTTPS connections for production network communications. Locally stored information is protected by the application sandboxing and device-security mechanisms provided by Android or iOS.

No method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

9. Your choices and deletion controls

You can limit or delete information by:

• Refusing or withdrawing camera, photo-library, or notification permissions in device settings
• Deleting history, lists, preferences, or other data through available in-app controls
• Clearing the application's data where the operating system provides that option
• Uninstalling Deeper Look
• Reviewing and cancelling a contribution or support email before it is submitted

Deleting Deeper Look does not automatically delete information already sent to Open Food Facts, Google Firebase, an email provider, or the developer. Contact the relevant controller or the developer where a separate deletion request is needed.

10. Your data-protection rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection concerning your personal data, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

Because Deeper Look does not require an account and most technical information is associated only with pseudonymous identifiers, the developer may not be able to identify or retrieve a particular diagnostic or analytics record without additional information from you.

You may also lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. In France, the supervisory authority is the Commission nationale de l'informatique et des libertés (CNIL).

11. Children

Deeper Look is not specifically designed or directed toward children. The developer does not knowingly ask children to provide identifying information. If you believe a child has sent personal information through a contribution or support request, contact the developer so the situation can be reviewed.

12. Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated when Deeper Look's functionality, service providers, or data practices change. The latest version will be published on this page together with its effective date.
